Projecting Future Scenarios for Fidalgo Bay (All day)

Projecting Future Scenarios for Fidalgo Bay - Modeling Water Circulation and Coastal Changes

Dr. Eric Grossman, Research Geologist, U.S. Geological Survey

“Dr. Grossman will discuss how the US Geological Survey is using powerful 3D computer modeling to examine coastal processes and inform ecosystem restoration and hazard mitigation in the Salish Sea.  How might climate change, sea level rise and land use influence coastal communities, ecosystem restoration outcomes, and Fidalgo Bay? Learn how USGS is constructing a 3D hydrodynamic model of Fidalgo Bay as part of a larger Salish Sea model to study these questions. Citizen science can help USGS and its partners improve these models through research and monitoring – find out how you can get involved as a volunteer!”

Film Series - DOUBLE FEATURE (Fri. 28 Oct, 2016 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

Join Friends for Good Films, Good Company and Popcorn. For the third screening in our film series we are offering a double feature of two shorter documentaries.

A Simple Question looks at an innovative program that brings together students of all ages, their teachers, community groups and local land-owners to undertake habitat restoration and preserve endangered species. STRAW (Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed) is a national model for involving students in hands-on, place-based environmental education.

Nature's Orchestra follows Bernie Krause on a soundscape expedition in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. To record habitats that are neither disturbed nor destroyed by human activities, nature sound recordists have to travel far. Along with animal voices, including migratory bird songs, the barking of a fox, and a grizzly's sniff, the expedition records the melting of permafrost and other evidence of climate change.
