Education - Stewardship - Restoration
Friends of Skagit Beaches provides funding and material support to projects implemented by Skagit County Beach Watchers. Through the years, thousands of Beach Watcher volunteer service hours have been logged for improving, maintaining and protecting a thriving Puget Sound ecosystem. Volunteers can get involved with existing projects or pursue their own passions by starting new volunteer projects.
Beach Naturalists
Some Beach Watcher volunteers undertake additional specialized training to enable them to act as guides and docents on Skagit Beaches to educate the public about marine ecology, shoreline processes, plants, animals, and beach etiquette.
Shoreline Monitoring
As citizen scientists, Beach Watcher volunteers can participate in beach surveys of Skagit County Beaches to monitor the condition and sea life. These surveys provide data to track the changes and health of our local shorelines.
Public Outreach
Beach Watchers often volunteer to participate in local community events such as Fidalgo Bay Day, the Anacortes Waterfront Festival, and the Bivalve Bash, where they can talk with the public to share educational information and provide fun activities for families.
